This question is such a minuscule question with such a profoundly long answer. Although, to make your life easier, I'll just speak about the major parts of Islam.
Islam is more than just a religion. It is a way of life. Muslims look to the Prophet Muhammad's Sunnah and the Quran as a guide to Jannah(paradise). Muslims also look for strong examples of people of the past: the other prophets, he companions of the prophets and the major women of Islam. Islam is a monotheistic religion and Islam means Submission to the will of God, thus muslims must lead a proper and humble life.
The Five Pillars of Islam
1. Shahadah- A testament said by Muslims everyday in Salah, said when converting to Islam and it is the basis for Islamic belief. "I testify that there are no god other than Allah and I testify that Muhammad is his Messenger." It is usually said in Arabic.
2. Salah- 5 daily prayers done by muslims to spiritually communicate to God with gratitude and worship. The prayers are recited in Arabic. Prayers are usually prayed in mosques or masjids.
3. Zakaat-or alms-giving is mandatory for Muslims who have come of age. It is a fixed portion of wealth given to the needy as charity every year. If one does not have enough money to give to the poor, they can give zakaat in other ways. eg: doing a favor or something kind to the needy such as a kind gesture like a friendly smile.
4. Fasting-During the month of Ramadan, Muslims must fast from day to dusk. This fasting is done in order to show their dependance and graditude to God and to think of the needy.
5. Hajj-It is done if one has the ability and wealth to make a pilgrimage to the holy city of Makkah, Saudi Arabia in order to visit the Kabah, built by Prophet Ibrahim(Abraham) and his son Ismail(Ishmael) and reconstructed by the Prophet Muhammad.
The Six Pillars Of Iman
Muslims believe in Allah(God), his angels, his books, his messengers, the Day of Resurrection/Judgement, and predestination.
The books in Islam are the Torah (revealed to Prophet Musa or Moses), the Zabur (revealed to Prophet Dawood or David), the Injil (Gospel) (revealed to Prophet Isa or Jesus), and the Qur'an itself(revealed to the last and final prophet, Prophet Muhammad).
The Three Sections of Islam
Muslims are divided into three sects: the Sunni, the Shia, and the Sufi's.
Sunni's or the Ahlus-Sunnah wal Jama'ah follow the traditions of the prophet Muhammad and believe in the caliphate.
Shia's believe Ali to be the rightful successor of the prophet rather than Abu-Bakr.
Sufism is a very spiritual sect of Islam and promotes turning away from everything but God.
Author/Blogger's note: I'm a Sunni and this is actually suppose to be taught in Global History...
